If you are uncertain whether the eggs in your refrigerator are fresh or not, try this simple test: Place an egg in a bowl of water. If it sinks it is fresh, if it floats it is an old egg and should be discarded.

Your BCF (best canine friend) will love you for these homemade treats, and you'll know exactly what you're feeding the four-legged member of your family!

          Yield: 2 dozen biscuits

          [edit] Ingredients

          • 3 cups flour
          • 3/4 cups cornmeal
          • 1 teaspoon garlic powder (fresh garlic, finely chopped, would be fine)
          • 1 cup chicken broth
          • 4 tablespoons butter
          • 1 egg
          • 1 tablespoon milk

          [edit] Directions

          1. Preheat your oven to 325°.
          2. Combine flour, cornmeal and garlic.
          3. Melt your butter in the warm chicken broth.
          4. Quickly stir liquid ingredients into dry ingredients.
          5. Knead for 3 minutes.
          6. Roll out to 1/4 inch thick on a floured surface, and stamp out with a floured cookie cutter. (You can search for a bone-shape cookie cutter, but I don't think your friend will really mind if it's another shape.)
          7. Beat egg and milk together, and brush the tops of your cookies.
          8. Bake on an ungreased cookie sheet for 35 minutes. The bottoms should be medium brown when done.

          [edit] Note

If your treats don't seem crunchy enough, leave them in the oven on the top rack as it cools down. Or you can also roll them a little thinner next time.
