Before returning an opened carton of ice cream to the freezer, press plastic wrap onto the surface of the ice cream to prevent ice crystals from forming.

Keep this sauce in a covered jar in the refrigerator for up to one month.
Makes about 3 1/2 cups of sauce.

- 1/2 cup sweet basil vinegar
- 1 cup water
- 4 tablespoons sugar
- 2 teaspoons prepared mustard
- 1 teaspoon pepper
- 3 teaspoons salt
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper

- 2 thick slices lemon
- 2 thick slices onion
- 1/2 cup margarine
- 4 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 cup ketchup
- 3 teaspoons liquid smoke (optional)

- Mix first 10 ingredients in a sauce pan; simmer 20 minutes uncovered.
- Add last 3 ingredients and heat to boiling point.
